Texas Records Exchange system (TREx)
National Transcript Center (NTC) is the vendor selected by TEA to develop and maintain TREx. Many districts have already begun using TREx to send student records/transcripts and requests for records electronically. TEA's district participation deadline was May 19, 2008.

All new with Phase 3 that was released on May 19, 2008:

TREx National Option
Districts now have the option of signing up for TREx National Option directly with National Transcript Center. Once a district is enrolled in TREx National Option, TREx users in that district will be able to send records and transcripts to any school in the country – public or private, in-state or out-of-state, PK-12 or higher ed – and even to scholarship providers and certification bodies like the NCAA.

All transactions within the TREx scope (i.e., public-to-public, in-state) will continue to be free-of-charge; there is a $5.00 fee for each out-of-scope transaction. Note that in the case study below, TEA concluded that it costs a district almost $8 and takes about 30 minutes to send a record/transcript on paper. TREx National Option will enable TREx users to use the same electronic process to send records/transcripts anywhere in the country, within the mandated TREx scope or beyond.

This flyer contains more information. If you have any questions or to sign up, please call 512-879-5421.

Manual data entry
Districts that do not have student information systems or whose SIS has not yet created the data extract are now able to enter records into TREx manually. There are only a few required fields to be typed in; other information can be provided as an attachment.

Private school support
Texas private PK-12 schools that wish to join the TREx network can now pay a fee to do so. The school will have to meet the TREx data standards. Then, the private school will be able to send free-of-charge through TREx to any in-state public school just as if it were public.

Dual credit support
Institutions of higher education can now send transcripts to high schools for students who are getting dual credit at both the high school and college levels.

Use TREx as much as possible. You'll quickly get used to it and find that it really does save a considerable amount of time. And, other districts are using TREx and counting on their trading partners to do the same.
Consider signing up for TREx National Option so you can use a single system for all your record/transcript needs.
Visit the UT SPEEDE Server website for more information about how to exchange transcripts between districts and colleges/universities.
Tell your trading partners that you want to begin trading records and transcripts electronically with them. The faster other districts and colleges start using TREx, the faster TREx's value for you will increase.

In November 2006, TEA put out a Request For Offers (RFO) to develop, support, and maintain a new student record exchange system, TREx. The National Transcript Center was awarded this contract in January 2007, and TREx launched on September 4, 2007. Participation in TREx was mandated by the passing of House Bill 1. Using TREx, there is no charge for Texas public schools to send electronic student records and transcripts to any public PK-12 or higher education institution in Texas.

This unofficial website is intended to help provide information to a wide range of stakeholders and ease the transition and implementation processes. It is not intended to replace TEA as the official source of information about TREx. This site will be updated as new information becomes available. The official TEA site for TREx information can be found at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/trex.
